The Cuneum (or Wedge Charge)

What the audience sees. A great picture of the massed ranks of Roman legionaries charging at the crowd to demonstrate the Roman tactic of the Cuneum. This wedge formation would be used very effectively to drive into the enemy and divide its fighting force. It is so effecive riot police still use this tactic today. On this occasion the audience were saved as they were protected by the weapon all Romans fear, the rope barrier.
